Cybersecurity-Gate: a discussion led by the WLN Technology Focus Group in London

10 June 2024

Reminding us that it is vital to be stringent in our efforts to protect our firms from cyber attacks, the WLN Technology Law Focus Group led an important discussion at our Spring Conference in London.

The panel comprised lawyers from around the globe, all sharing interesting insights from different regions. Thank you to our panelists:

Diane Frank (Schmid Frank, Augsburg). Diane expertly moderated the discussion as well as presenting the (alarming) timeline of ransomware attacks - what you see, and what you don't see.

Renata W. Lewicka (Gorazda, Świstuń, Wątroba i Partnerzy adwokaci i radcowie prawni,  Kraków). Renata presented an overview of cybersecurity threats, including phishing, ransomware, and data breaches.

Jakob Tasser (bureau Plattner, Bolzano). Jakob outlined the legal obligations under Cybersecurity Laws, including an overview of the NIS2 Directive and other EU Acts (including GDPR and the AI Act); as well as discussing the impact of cyber attacks on law firms.

Jackie Wu (Long An Law Firm, Shanghai). Jackie shared key principles of Cybersecurity Law and Personal Data Protection Law of PRC, followed by new rules on Cross-Border Data Transfer.

Chris Erb (White and Williams, Philadelphia). Chris shared an overview of US Privacy and Cybersecurity Laws plus interesting insight into the changes we may see in the future.

Thank you to the WLN Technology Law Focus Group for their continued efforts to raise awareness of important technology law topics and updates. If you wish to join the group, or keep updated with their future projects, please reach out to Hannah (manager@warwicklegal.com).
