Jorge Mañá Young Lawyers Award 2017
23 April 2018
My two-week internship at office of Bufete Mañá-Krier-Elvira ('BMK'), Barcelona, Spain was challenging and at the same time great and invaluable experience at the beginning of my professional career.
I was in Barcelona at a very historical moment. By that time the Catalonian independence referendum had recently been held. Several thousand demonstrators protested and went on strike over the police violence during the disputed referendum. Roads across the city were blocked, the schools, businesses and shops were also closed. The protests were very peaceful and most of the people who took to the streets were young. For me, it was the first time that I had witnessed such big and significant demonstrations.
My colleagues at the BMK office welcomed me very warmly and during my stay there, they were helpful and supportive. I had the chance to look across different legal areas that were interesting to me, such as: corporate, real estate, as well as employment law issues. I became familiar with what was for me a new working culture and got hands-on experience in a different law office. I learned from more experience by facing the working process day by day.
Naturally there was a socila aspect too. I was invited to a crayfish party, organized by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Barcelona. I had a very lovely time there and had the opportunity to meet people from different countries. The event was filled with many dances, songs and delicious food.
Last but not least, being part of such project is very challenging and great responsibility. The placement helped to broaden my mind and advance my career in the process.
I would once again want to thank WLN Board for giving me this opportunity and to thank the colleagues at Office Mañá-Krier-Elvira for the warmth welcome and support during my placement their office.
